Q&A with the co-star of “Patrick & Grace,” Patrick Donovan
Q: What was your reaction the first time you watched “Patrick & Grace”?
Patrick: Speechless. And appreciative of all the work the Mutual Rescue team put into capturing our story.
Q: Bring us up to date on events in your life since the filming.
Patrick: I became a dad, as you can see in the photos added to the film’s credits. Our son, Declan, and Grace have formed a strong bond. He can almost say her name now.
Q: How do Grace and Declan relate to each other?
Patrick: Grace has become ultra-protective of Declan and he has learned how to pet her “gently,” as we say over and over. Every morning he tries to say Grace’s name when he looks at her picture hanging in his room. It’s kind of adorable.
Q: What would you tell people who are considering adopting a homeless pet?
Patrick: Do it! Don’t overthink it. Helping a life other than your own helps you, too.
Q: How did your recovery with Grace redefine your definition of strength?
Patrick: Strength isn’t always physical ability. Watching Grace get better after all she had been through was the strength I needed at that time to start a new life.
Q: Are you still active in sports and fitness activities?
Patrick: Yes. Life is movement. In fact, part of the reason I recovered with no deficits is because of the shape I was in. Right now I’m just maintaining and staying away from the more competitive side of things.
Q: How’s Grace?
Patrick: She’s the perfect addition we never knew we needed! Seeing how sweet she is you’d never know her story. She didn’t give up when someone gave up on her. I’m thankful we found each other.
